‘Experiential design’, has been a passion of mine for the past few years and my aim has been to challenge what is understood about the meaning of graphic design, and investigate the ways in which conceptual approaches can be realised to create practical and exciting visual expressions, bringing them to life with the senses of smell and taste. I create emotional projects with an intention to push the boundaries in graphic design - implying an exploration of the power of smell and taste to create association, evocation and suggestion. These elements of sensory perception have an ability to provoke memories, arouse nostalgia about the past or inspire curiosity about an intriguing new sensory experience. The juxtaposition of certain smells or tastes with other visual sensory inputs which are normally not experienced together could be a powerful communication tool within graphic design.
