BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology (Womenswear)
Hannah Rooke is a Womenswear designer aiming to create innovative, elegant garments with an eclectic, youthful style. Focus on drapery and pleating of fabrics to create layering and depth upon the body contrasting against elements of tailoring. The designerâs aesthetic is romantic yet strong with an emphasis on colour and texture. Influenced by and designed for strong, confident, elegant women. As a response to the misrepresentation of identity and loss of individuality within contemporary culture, Hannah Rooke will focus on creating a sustainable, authentic style. The aim is to create treasured pieces of clothing depicting craft, care and originality to be negotiated by the individual in their own way. The Spring/Summer 2013 Ready to Wear collection 'Presence' explores the idea of emphasizing strength of identity in conjunction with femininity. Powerful personalities and strong female figures such as Frida Kahlo, the muses of Gustav Klimt, young women in the 1960âs and the idea of the âfemme fataleâ in the 1940âs Film Noir genre inspired the development of shape and surface. Colours and textures of Mexican dress, mosaics and Klimtâs paintings have been interpreted through layering frayed silks and chiffons with trims and lace creating linear details to highlight garment structures complimented by metallic surfaces and bold colours. The silhouette combines structured garments inspired by 1940âs and 1960âs tailoring with draped pieces. Education London College of Fashion.
