Ekaterina Gerasimova AW 2011/ Photography: Elvira Che

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear

My work is a collaboration of illustrative, symbolic imagery and their application to textiles. Collection range revolves around a multitude of layered surface textiles techniques such as print devore, felting, appliqué and embroidery, in traditional and digital variations, including some specialist fur crafts (sponsored by Saga Furs) – that are engineered into womenswear designs. The creative collaboration between garment and print is a massive inspiration to me that I juxtapose onto sophisticated and playfully elaborate garments. A major influence in all the areas I’m researching is Latin American parables and common lavish imagery (often seen in tattoos or religion) deconstructed and reconstructed with my own illustrations. Golden SS13. Patchwork sleeveless oversized jacket with drawstring. Sleeveless zipper shirt. Leather bermuda short.

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Menswear

Photographer - Hamish Jordan Makeup & Hair - Luka Watabe Models - Josh Bristow, Gareth Andrews, Giquina Dancer - Saheed Omisore Director - JD Pennington "Golden SS13" aspires to a look inspired by urban dances, notably the Lockin', a funk dance created during the early seventies. This collection focuses on the different materials, fabrics and textiles employed. Leather, poplin, cotton suiting and jersey are embellished, reworked and rebuilt with a particular attention to stripes. Primarily defined by oversized silhouettes, both sporty and classic; the men's spring/summer 2013 according to Magali Confiant intends to be modern - considering functional details, with a slight hint of extravagance accentuated by textile designs, and a touch of glamour raised by metallic colours - while remaining ultra wearable. *based in Paris, not available for projects in London.

Tidy Up The Commotion

BA (Hons) Fashion: Design Technology (Footwear Design)

The work reflects conceptual meanings behind a series of neatly organised objects in various visual manifestos. The main inspiration derives from the works of Ursus Werhli. Through mixing ordinary scattered elements into a minimal and controlled arrangement, there is a new perception of the original. It is a double take of imagery which becomes a personal documentation, similar creating a time capsule. Pieces are split apart or flatten out, only to construct an altered form. This is taking an existing object, transforming into a personal idea to the object. Decorative stitch details enhances the outlook of basic footwear silhouettes in the design. However, such details may have to be toned down to balance the shapes from the sole units. MDF takes form of the experimental stages of constructing the sole unit. The sections are made of series of laser cut shapes through the basic outline construction from Rhino. These panels that joins together creates the heel and other sole units. Acrylic is the final selection material wise as it is lightweight, fragile when it is in pieces but durable once they join up. My original inspiration came from Commedia dell'arte, which was a form of Italian masked theatre in the 16th century, and the characters portrayed in these stories, such as Pierrot and Harlequin (which are now precursors to the modern day clown) which have been depicted in reknown paintings by Picasso and Juan Gris. I loved the bright textures, striking shapes and emphatic textures (which I developed and incorporated into my pieces by the use of smocking) present in the Commedia dell'arte and wanted to modernise the characters through my collection, as well as add a bit of my own culture and memories through the incorporation of Thai garland flowers in the accessories which share a similar type of brightness and colourfulness. BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles

Sharon’s interest in design stems from her passion for the visual arts and crafts. Before moving to London, she worked as a fancy jewellery designer for a private French company in Mauritius, where she also helped design costume embellishments for local musicals. Although specialising in surface decoration and textile manipulation, she is equally skilled at freehand drawing, illustration, stand work and pattern-cutting, with a particular interest in corsetry. Her style, however versatile, tends to lean towards a feminine mix of urban and alternative fashion, with close attention to textures and details. The launch of her graduate collection, ‘Organic Frameworks S/S 2011’ was inspired by the structures of human and robotic skeletons, exploring the ways in which an organic element can morph into a contemporary product. Akin to late Sixties fashion, the overall look is young, fresh and sleek, but with a modern and edgy approach to the classic shift dress by basing on a shiny white colour palette and incorporating a range of contrasting fabrics like silk organza, habotai, PVC, embossed sheepskin and pearlised lambskin leather. Being a self-reliant, fast learner keen to broaden her knowledge of the fashion industry, Sharon intends to work for a womenswear brand or luxury house with an extensive set of roles in mind besides design and production. Her CV includes work experience with British designers and brands such as Nike, Mulberry, Emma Cook, Zoe Bradley and John Richmond, for whom she designed final artworks and textiles for the Spring/Summer 2010 Mainline Collection.

A space view of the Niger Delta

FdA Fashion Design And Marketing

For more than five centuries the fortunes of the Niger Delta have been closely tied to that of the global economy. For its slave ports, then palm industry, and most recently through the discovery of crude oil in the 1950s. Oil multinationals soon came to the fore, working in alliance with a local elite to strip the region of its wealth and despoil it. At the receiving end are the region's impoverished inhabitants: left with a poisoned environment, faced with government that never cares and victims of rival armed militant groups laying claim to territories. (Delta Nigeria. The Rape of Paradise 2011) Everyday more than two million barrels of oil are transported above ground from approximately 5,000 well, through the country in 7,000 kilometres of pipelines. According to a new study, between nine to eleven million barrels of oil have allegedly been spilled since drilling began in 1956. Only a tiny percentage of the profits reaches the region where the oil is actually extracted. The infrastructure of the delta, its public health and the availability of clean water and nutrition are in a disastrous state.(Last Rites Niger Delta. The Drama of Oil Production in Contemporary Photographs, Dr Christine Stelzig, 2012) Delta Treasure was created as a result of the injustices the people of the Niger Delta have had to withstand. The brands seeks to bring light to the situation in the Niger Delta, by showing that there is more to this beautiful place than the Crude oil that is so sought after. The Delta Treasure brand seeks to inspire through various projects. Delta Treasure aims to be a luxury brand with charitable initiatives. Fashion with a cause.

A Multitude of Hybrids SS13: Sunglasses detail

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles

The concept for my collection 'A Multitude of Hybrids' derived from my culture; looking into the meanings behind Composite Hindu Gods and through further research into the myths and stories of Medieval Bestiaries. I was intrigued by the stories about all of these beautiful and mythical creatures and so began to focus my attention on the exciting textures used. Through expressive mark making i created print ideas that were reminiscent of the textures of these creatures. All prints were hand screen printed using a variety of techniques including discharge, colour discharge, pigment and foil. Discharge print technique holds great significance through collection to echo concept of reincarnation. The concept of hybrids was emphasised through the use of specialist Tanaka machinery to create embroidery on the front and back of each garment to merge fabrics together. Silhouettes were inspired by contemporary sportswear providing a youthful and urban feeling to contrast with the traditional craft processes used. Fabric and colour choices derived from initial sourcing in India to echo wealth of culture and contemporary sportswear to modernise traditional and almost expected combinations. Nano Aoshima S/S 2012

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear

Movement and comfort, are key to my collection. Hence, sportswear and street wear have always been my inspiration. The challenge born, to break the boundary between everyday street wear/sportswear, and elegant and glamorous femininity that are required in designing Womenswear, is what I hope to have achieved within my collection, though looking at Japanese traditional wear, Japanese wood print, and by using a new approach to sweatshirt. I have also been inspired by the subject of preconceptual fashion, which is, covering the body instead of exposing, and by hiding the body it becomes enhanced in a more effective way. Oversized and baggy may not make a woman look beautiful or attractive, yet I believe that by providing a space for someone that I design the clothes for, to move in the garments, and providing fabrics and silhouettes that move together with the body, giving her a presence and an attitude, she becomes undefeated and the most attractive woman. My passion to Fashion Design has grown over years, whilst experiencing and memorizing life at different time and place. Nano Aoshima Spring/Summer 2012 is a very personal collection, hence full of youth and it is what I feel right now at this moment. My ideas are never ending and I am convinced that this is the reason why I continued to enjoy designing so much. I wish to create something that has a character, and pieces of work that leave something in the corner of people's mind, to be remembered and recognized that it is my own work. My designs will keep changing as I grow up and enrich my experience, and I wish to keep expressing and communicating all of myself that is consumed into Fashion Design, in every opportunities that I meet in future. I am extremely organized in my work and very focused with time management as I am aware of the importance of delivering on time in fashion industry. I am confident and will be good in dealing with customers with ease.I have been working as a Freelancer, build up clients and understood their needs. I participated in Illustration competitions like Company Magazine Fashion Illustration, Finalist 2010. I have developed a deeper understanding of fabrics, colours and most importantly silhouette during my education and training. I enjoy design development with 3D experiments on silhouette using pattern as well as drape. The project Hanging Out, by Full Spectrum Productions, took place at Victoria and Albert Museum. I made sketches for garment construction from original 1950’s patterns and developed illustrations worn by Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley and James Dean. This was a great opportunity to enhance my pattern skills and garment construction. I am passionate about achieving success.
