Born. The Original Parchment. Laser cut Bodice. Photography; www.amybarton.co.uk

BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Development

Collection Website. http://www.thisisborn.co.uk/ Bio. Beginning each design journey with hand-rendered illustrations and drawings, my work primarily explores the balance between the reveal and conceal of the body, focussing on the construction of personal identities through the layering of texture and print. The Capsule Collection 'The Original Parchment' primarily explores a deep fascination towards bodily adornments across different cultures and communities. Inspired by the way in which the body acts as a personal canvas, sources of influence for the collection derived from the exploration into tattooing, branding and bruising of the skin drawing on both a graphic and textural aesthetic. Introducing the use of Laser cutting adds new texture working to develop the range into much more of a textural look, drawing out a 3D illustrative quality back onto the body. Engaging with my global responsibilities as a designer is integral to the basis of my work, manifested through the use of reclaimed, organic and Fair Trade materials wherever possible, always working towards the creation of socially and ecologically ethical pieces. Whilst consistently posing challenges in the sourcing and experimentation processes, these boundaries work to push my developmental process further into finding a newness in the creation of artwork onto the body. By combining commercial awareness and conceptual aesthetic, my work reflects a desire to see products which challenge the conventions of consumerist fashion. This Capsule Collection aims to offer a sustainable and wearable product range founded on a love for print, colour and texture. ''Lastbreathe'' by Robert Wun 2011

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear

Women's Wear Fashion Design Based in London and Hong Kong robertwun@gmail.com www.robertwun.tumblr.com www.robertwun.com '' B u r n t '' by Robert Wun 2012 -Curiosity towards the bonds between Nature and Man has always been a main inspiration to me. Discovering the symmetrical flaws in nature led me to a deeper attraction of microphotographs of butterflies and moths. Insects we perceive to be symmetrical and consequently, beautiful. Yet it was the flaws in nature that triggered my interest. Where nature design many things in symmetrical proportions but yet both left and right sides are slightly different. To achieve this particular idea I had to use techniques whereby you cannot control the outcome, like burning and melting. Delve into the idea that nothing is perfect. All those ruffles are created by waddings with burnt out gradient patterns, highly crafted in-between with glass organza. Also led to a very artificial fabric ranges, Neoprene, Organza, Lycra, Foam and waddings. Using artificial based resources to regenerate an idea of nature with organic working methods. Symbolizing the relations between man and nature. While the ombre effects created by digital printings and hand dip-dyed works like a harmony between two extremes. Man and Nature, Black and White. Something I always fascinated and inspired from. Accessories’ detail development looked towards the structure of insects under a microscope, examining the scales and limbs intricately and transporting these spiky visuals into platform heels with a horned toe. The idea of nature versus artificial, generated as a vision of a striking, independent women’s wear collection, bizarre in a sophisticated, yet appealing way.

BA (Hons) Fashion: Design Technology (Footwear Design)

Tosin Mogaji is a young footwear designer and recent graduate of BA (Hons) Cordwainers Footwear Design at London College of Fashion. Having previously studied Art & Design in college, Tosin naturally found herself drawn to the creative and functional aspect of creating footwear products. With her final year collection, emphasis was placed on designing and making shoes that are minimal in style, with a focus on strong, clean design lines suitable for a contemporary woman. As a creative thinker pioneering in trends in fashion design, she thoroughly enjoys the research and design process leading to the creation of products that will communicate her desired aesthetic. This being a reflection of her own take on modern style, identity and culture. With this Autumn/Winter 2013/2014 collection, inspiration was found in layering constructions and an exploration into subtle colour contrasts. The concept involved including shoes within the range that take on a more androgynous style approach, aiming to reflect a shift in modern and future trends she finds inspirational. Whilst studying Cordwainers Footwear Design, she has gained experience developing new ideas to be translated into footwear prototypes, for self-directed projects and commercial work for various companies. tosin_m@hotmail.co.uk Photographer: Alejandro Cavallo

BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Development

The collection is inspired by the smooth curves and linear elements of 60’s furniture, smooth shiny wooden panels that sit next to upholstered bright hues in coarse Meltons. Concrete poured buildings with rounded edges, curved openings & material contrasts. The collection plays with proportion & texture contrasts. Opposing textures sit alongside each other, a shiny patent leather tops a fluffy angora, a juxtaposition that emphasises both textures. Heritage fabrics are central to the design concept. Mary Binding is a Womenswear designer. She aims to create wearable fashion that is relevant to women today. Colour plays a key part in all her work, taking prominence in both her garments and her editorial work. Rikke Bonde ; Menswear designer STATEMENT: I am fascinated by art and I consider fashion a challenging part of it. Like a detective, I keep investigating different aspects of life and get inspired by them. For me it is all about pushing the boundaries of traditional menswear by experimenting with technique and texture to create an innovative outcome. My final collection Hyper-Natural is strongly influenced by a journey to California. It explores the contrasting aspects of reality and unreality. Silhouettes and textures in the collection are informed by the craftsmanship of Native American costume and weaving, incorporating innovative textiles ( using special machinery as Tanaka) and hyper-real colour palettes - inspired by Jeff Koons and Umberto Eco - in the form of feathers, metallic yarns and foil leather. A sense of irony plays into my thought process leading to kitsch elements in the collection. Overall, I want my outcome to be something ordinary presented in an unexpected way, not in an attempt to be eccentric but to be surprisingly relevant. The inspiration for my final major project came from London as a city. I am strongly influenced by my surroundings and the city as a space for inspiration has become a recurring theme within my work. The three main aspects I explored for this project are detail, movement and texture.

Final Major Project: Nature's Geometry

BA (Hons) Fashion: Design & Technology (Top Up)

The concept for this project is based around natural geometry, hence the name Nature's Geometry, I have explored this concept through different patterns found in nature. This concept has been chosen so that the purpose of this could expose the beauty of nature and the importance of sustainability. I consider sustainability to be an important value in my design and making process, so this ensures the end product is streamlined and styled for substance. I am currently industry experience as I'm extremely eager to translate the skills I've gained on my course into the commercial realm. Please feel to contact me for any queries.

Womenswear Designer & Researcher EDUCATION London College of Fashion // BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear Copenhagen School of Design and Technology, Centre for Responsible Design // Innovating Sustainable Fashion (Summer School) Karlsruhe Academy of Arts and Design, D // Art Research and Media Theory, Exhibition Design and Curatorial Practice WORKING EXPERIENCE Hussein Chalayan // Assistant to Production Manager Peter Pilotto // Studio Assistant Podium 84 // Costume and Stage Designer I am inspired by the way we cherish fashion, and that despite its fast pace we strive for the achievement of timelessness, longevity and an ultimate moment and the truth. Celebrating identity and esteem and the beauty that lies within us all and outlasting heterogeneity is key to my practice as a designer. I have examined the cultural traditions of an almost forgotten world in the alpine uplands, researched alpine herdsmen whose handcrafted dress has remained unchanged for hundreds of years. They embody their heritage, beliefs and culture. Patina and traces of time enhance the emotional value of the garments and objects and create a respectful bond between the maker, wearer and the product - unlike in the handling of contemporary fashion. Inspired by the opulence and symbolism of these historical costumes, my collection is a celebration of their essence, searching for raw minimalism in their voluminous and excessively decorated shapes. Shireeka Devlin is an Irish womenswear and textiles designer based in London. She has recently graduated in BA (Hons) Degree in Surface Textiles for Fashion at London College of Fashion. She likes to create extremely wild and fun pieces that are wearable yet showstopping. She loves to use as much colour and print in her work as possible. Her silhouettes are inspired by menswear contrasted with really playful, feminine loud colours and insane prints inspired by everything in her daily life even if it’s something simple such as a poster of a monkey. Her work is all about the print and she believes in lots hand rendering and primary research mixed with CAD to make her artwork and patterns more personal and interesting. Her latest collection ‘Trippin' Over My Dreams’, explores and translates the view ‘Things are not always what they seem’, in a light – hearted and playful way. The collection is based on optical illusion art. Influenced by a variety of optical illusion techniques and subtle 80’s fashion, the collection is fun yet sophisticated.
